Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 25, 2026 · Effective: May 25, 2026
AniCue ("we", "our", or "us") operates the AniCue website at anicue.appand the AniCue Android application (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over your data. Please read it carefully. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.
01 Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Email address — collected when you create an account via magic link or Google OAuth. Used to identify your account, send login links, and deliver release notification emails if you opt in.
- Display name — pulled from your Google profile metadata if you sign in with Google. We store only the name you have already made public to Google.
- Third-party credentials — if you link a MyAnimeList or AniList account, we store an OAuth access token and your external username so we can sync your list. We never store your MAL or AniList password.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — pages visited, features used, search queries entered, and actions taken (such as following or unfollowing a title). This helps us understand how the Service is used and improve it.
- Device and platform information — browser type, operating system, device model, and screen resolution. Collected to diagnose bugs and optimise the experience across devices.
- IP address and approximate location — used for security (detecting unusual sign-in patterns) and to comply with legal obligations. We do not build profiles based on location.
- Push notification tokens — on the Android app, Firebase Cloud Messaging generates a device token that allows us to deliver release notifications. This token is stored in our database linked to your account.
- Cookies and local storage — we use session cookies to maintain your authenticated state and browser local storage to cache your watchlist preferences locally. No advertising cookies are set by AniCue itself.
Information from third-party services
- AniList & MyAnimeList — when you connect these accounts we import your anime and manga list (titles and watch status). This data is synced and stored in our database.
- Google AdMob — the Android app displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as Android Advertising ID) and usage signals to serve personalised ads. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can reset or opt out of personalised ads in your Android device settings.
02 How We Use Your Information
- Authenticate you and maintain your session across devices.
- Deliver release notifications for titles you follow (push on Android; in-app on web).
- Sync your follow list with linked MAL and AniList accounts.
- Personalise the browse experience — showing followed titles ahead of generic trending content.
- Improve the Service by analysing aggregated usage patterns, diagnosing errors, and testing new features.
- Comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
- Detect and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles or share it with data brokers.
03 Data Storage & Security
Your account data and watchlist are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Supabase, a managed cloud database platform. Supabase applies row-level security policies so that your data is only accessible by your own authenticated session and our server-side edge functions.
All data in transit is encrypted using TLS 1.2 or higher. Database backups are encrypted at rest. Access to production infrastructure is restricted to the AniCue development team via multi-factor authentication.
Despite these measures, no system is 100% secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it responsibly to hello@anicue.app before disclosing it publicly.
04 Third-Party Services & Data Sharing
We integrate with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy which governs the data it receives.
We may also disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AniCue, our users, or the public.
05 Push Notifications
The Android app uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to send you notifications when a title you follow releases a new episode or chapter. You can disable notifications at any time through your device's notification settings or by disconnecting your account in the app. Revoking notification permission does not delete your account or watchlist.
06 Data Retention
- Active accounts — we retain your data for as long as your account exists and for a reasonable period afterward to allow account recovery.
- Deleted accounts — when you delete your account, we remove your personal data (email, follow list, linked service tokens) within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
- Release data — anonymised release schedule data (episode dates, chapter dates) is retained indefinitely as it contains no personal information.
- Notification tokens — FCM tokens are deleted when you sign out or delete your account.
07 Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Deletion — request that we delete your account and associated data.
- Portability — receive your watchlist data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to specific processing activities.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (e.g. push notifications), you can withdraw at any time without affecting prior processing.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@anicue.app. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
08 Children's Privacy
AniCue is not directed at children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
09 International Transfers
AniCue is operated from India. Your data may be stored and processed in data centres outside your country of residence (including the United States, where Supabase and Google infrastructure is located). By using the Service, you acknowledge this transfer. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent transfer mechanisms.
10 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify signed-in users via in-app notice or email. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
